Community Hospital Corporation Announces 2016 Dan Wilford Award Winner: Steward Salmond, RN

Plano, TX (June 24, 2016)  Community Hospital Corporation (CHC) is proud to announce the winner of the 2016 Dan Wilford Award for Compassion and Community Service. Steward Salmond is a registered nurse at Tyler ContinueCARE Hospital in Tyler, Texas. He is recognized as an outstanding individual who demonstrates extraordinary care, compassion and concern for the health and welfare of his community.

The award is named for Dan Wilford who retired in 2002 as president and CEO of Memorial Hermann Healthcare System in Houston and was a founding board member of CHC.

“It is my pleasure to recognize Steward with the Dan Wilford Award,” said Michael D. Williams, CHC president and CEO. “Through his service to the community and hospital, he shows remarkable concern for the welfare and happiness of patients and the community as a whole.”

Salmond is the recipient of several “sacred work” awards for excellence in patient care at Tyler ContinueCARE Hospital. “He defines our calling ‘to do the right thing’ as we focus on caring for our patients,” said Stephanie Hyde, RN, MSN, CEO of Tyler ContinueCARE Hospital. Salmond joined the hospital in May of 2014 as a new Graduate Nurse from the University of Texas at Tyler.

“Steward is a caring, compassionate individual who listens to his patients and sets an example for others,” said Cinnamon Wilkens, Certified Nursing Assistant, who works closely with Salmond. “His patients have said they can tell he cares and is not just doing his job.” He is known for doing whatever possible to provide comfort, and helps others on and off the job – donating time and money to charitable causes.

At a special Buffet Lunch, Mr. Williams will present Salmond with a $500 gift card, crystal award, and a framed certificate of appreciation. The Buffet Lunch will be held Thursday, June 23, 2016 at 12:00 noon in Tyler ContinueCARE Hospital’s 4th Floor Conference Room.
