Third Annual Dan Wilford Award for Compassion and Community Service

Community Hospital Corporation Announces Janet Pohl of Yoakum Community Hospital as the Recipient of the Dan Wilford Award for Compassion and Community Service

Plano, Texas (June 19, 2012) – Community Hospital Corporation (CHC) is pleased to announce the 2012 recipient of the third-annual Dan Wilford Award for Compassion and Community Service. Janet Pohl, a payroll/accounts payable manager at Yoakum Community Hospital in Yoakum, TX, was recognized as an outstanding individual who demonstrates extraordinary care, compassion and concern for the health and welfare of her community.

The award is named for Dan Wilford who retired in 2002 as president and CEO of Memorial Hermann Healthcare System in Houston and was a founding board member of CHC.

“It is my pleasure to present the Dan Wilford Award to Janet,” says Michael D. Williams, CHC’s president and CEO. “Through her service to the community and hospital, Janet shows remarkable concern for the welfare and happiness of patients and the community as a whole.”

Janet was nominated by staff members of Yoakum Community Hospital, where she has worked for 30 years. She started her career at Yoakum as a dietary aide and has since been an LVN, purchasing aide, purchasing director, business office clerk, and nursing secretary.

Janet’s commitment to helping others does not end at the close of the workday. She is a regular blood donor, an active member of the YCH Auxiliary, the Sweet Home American Legion, Catholic Daughters, and the Altar Society, among others.

Karen Roznovsky, who nominated Janet, describes her as a real employee advocate who “has a heart of gold and genuinely cares about the employees and has, on many occasions, gone out of her way to help others whether it’s researching a question about their paycheck or benefits, baking for them, providing a shoulder to lean on or just a listening ear.”

“Janet is truly a ‘whatever it takes’ employee,” says Jennifer Franklin, Chief Nursing Officer. “Even when faced with a task that is very difficult, there is never more than a moment’s hesitation before she starts to figure out how to make something work.”

At a reception that was held June 11th in Janet’s honor, Williams presented her with a Waterford crystal bowl, $500 gift card, and a framed certificate of appreciation.
