Williams Honored for Going Above and Beyond

AUSTIN (Jan. 31, 2011) – Michael D. (Mike) Williams, FACHE, president and chief executive officer of Community Hospital Corporation (CHC) in Plano, has been selected as the recipient of the 2010 HOSPAC Star Award. The award recognizes outstanding hospital leaders who go above and beyond to support HOSPAC, the state and federal action committees of the Texas Hospital Association. Williams will receive the award during THA’s annual conference, Feb. 2 in Austin.

“Whether he’s leading a hospital in Texas or Tennessee or serving up soup during a mission trip in Guatemala or Haiti, Mike strives each and every day to make a difference,” said David Tesmer, chairman of HOSPAC. “He understands the importance of building relationships with elected officials to help shape the future of health care policy, and he motivates others to get involved.”

Williams is consistently among the PAC’s top contributors, and he has served on the HOSPAC Board of Directors since 2008. During his tenure as a member of the THA Board of Trustees – which he chaired in 2010 – he raised the profile of HOSPAC and increased participation to the highest level in the organization’s history.

Williams has served as president/CEO of CHC since 1997. He is passionate about CHC’s mission to provide resources to support and strengthen community-based hospitals. Williams began his health career at Baptist Medical Center-Montclair in Birmingham, Ala., and subsequently held positions at Children’s Medical Center of Dallas, Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas and the Baptist Health System of East Tennessee.

A fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives, Williams received his undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and a master’s degree in hospital and health administration from the University of Alabama in Birmingham.
