Wills Memorial Hospital Announces Relationship Opportunity

Washington, GEORGIA (March 25, 2015) – Wills Memorial Hospital continues its work to strengthen and better position the hospital for future success.

Earlier this year, the Hospital Authority of Wilkes County engaged Community Hospital Consulting (CHC Consulting) of Plano, Texas, to conduct an operational assessment to better understand the hospital’s areas of focus, challenge and opportunity. CHC Consulting completed the operational assessment and presented findings of the 120-page report, as well as a detailed action plan, to the WMH Board last month.

“Enhancing our hospital will take concentrated effort and we are up for the challenge,” said Jane Echols, hospital CEO. “We are grateful to have access to the numerous resources and expertise that CHC has to offer. We have been most impressed with CHC’s commitment to guide and support community hospitals across the country.”

Toward next steps in its strategic course, at its March 25 meeting, the WMH Board approved a strategic support agreement with CHC Consulting for help in implementing improvements identified in the action plan. In addition, the WMH Board approved a Letter of Interest for Community Hospital Corporation to lease the hospital. A 120-day due diligence process now begins to determine if a lease arrangement is best for all parties.

"We pass a major milestone today with the signing of this agreement, the first step in our formal relationship with CHC,” said Lawrence Burton, Board Chairman. “There is no doubt that CHC is a first-class outfit. Our hospital and by extension our community are extremely fortunate to be associated with them. CHC is recognized as a national leader among hospital operators and we are fortunate to have them in our corner.” In Georgia alone, CHC provides management support for Monroe County Hospital in Forsyth, and Burke Medical Center in Waynesboro.

“During the past several months, we have been very impressed with the commitment of the Board and leadership to provide excellent healthcare to this community, and we share the compassion for keeping quality healthcare services available right here,” said Mike Williams, CHC president and CEO.

CHC is a values-based, not-for-profit support organization committed to helping hospitals succeed well into the future. CHC has three distinct organizations – CHC Hospitals, CHC Consulting and CHC ContinueCARE – and owns, manages or consults with 21 hospitals nationwide. CHC has consulted with hospitals in 25 states.
